How to troubleshoot unable to connect to the car in OrBit |

**updated Mar 2025**
Modern Volvos/Polestars that OrBit works with all use "DoIP" - Diagnostics over IP connection. Which, for us DIY-ers, is the fancy way to say the connection uses Ethernet, i.e. a wired network port on a computer. Dealers use WiFi connection but us consumers do not have access to that.
The good: The adapters are cheap and all you need is a computer with a common wired network jack. Any Volvo VOE or BMW ENET wired adapter can be used.
The bad: There is no specific hardware like "DiCE", there are thousands of different hardware variations of the common network card, which is subject to all of the "goings on" in Windows to do with drivers and networks.
If OrBit is unable to connect to the car and you see any of the following messages in the screen log in OrBit:
- NOTE: No car network is detected, trying to connect anyways...
- No cars found! Check cable, replug OBD connector, or check local firewall blocks OrBit from incoming connections
- Waiting for the gateway to respond...
Follow the below steps to address some known issues that can cause this problem...
Make sure you are using the correct adapter type!
- OrBit uses the Volvo VOE type connection. The adapter connects the OBD port in the car to an Ethernet network port in the computer
- For laptops without and ethernet port, a USB ethernet adapter can be used.
- Any aftermarket adapter compatible with Volvo VOE or BMW ENET should work fine.
Re-plug the OBD end of the VOE adapter:
- The car will timeout and disable the connection if a tool (OrBit) is not connected within 5-10 minutes
- Remove and re-plug the OBD plug to re-activate the connection, then try to connect with OrBit again
...if still unable to connect OrBit, check the car network is present:
- Click on the network tray icon in Windows, and check that an Ethernet (wired) network is connected
- The network will usually be named "Unidentified Network" and should also show "No Internet"
- For tech savvy users, the network adapter should be set to defaults: DHCP and Windows will set an "APIPA" address in the 169.254.x.x range
...if you DO find the Ethernet network connected, disable the Windows Defender Firewall temporarily:
- Disable Firewall for all networks shown as (active)
- IF you have a 3rd party security or anti-virus software with firewall, you will need to refer to vendor specific info to temporarily disable it.
- IF you use any VPN software you should close/disable this as well for testing
- If disabling the Windows Defender Firewall resolves the issue, re-enable the firewall, then uninstall OrBit from Windows control panel, and re-install it. OrBit creates firewall exceptions in Defender when it is installed.
- If disabling 3rd party security or VPN software resolves the issue, you may need to create an exception to allow OrBit to connect to the car. You will need to refer to vendor specific support and information for this. (Firewall Info: OrBit should have port 13400 TCP+UDP incoming connections allowed, and no restrictions on outgoing traffic from OrBitRun.exe)
...if you still cannot connect to the car, or you found NO Ethernet network connected, the issue may be with the car:
For AAOS cars, try resetting the TCAM gateway in the car (skip for Sensus):
- In the car, push the front defogger button on the climate control, hold for 10-20 secs until the "SOS" button in the overhead console flashes
- Release the front defogger button
- Wait a few minutes, try to connect to the car with OrBit
- If the "SOS" button does not flash when trying the TCAM reset, the TCAM is not responding, move on to the battery reset
...if restarting the gateway does not resolve the problem or for Sensus car, perform a battery reset:
- Disconnect the negative terminal from the 12V battery
- Wait a minute
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal
- Try to connect again and see if it succeeds
...if you still have trouble connecting:
- If there is still no "Ethernet" network showing in Windows, there could be a problem with the VOE adapter you have
- It can be helpful to try with another computer if you have one available
- It may be neccessary in some extreme cases to totally de-power the TCAM (AAOS) or VCM (Sensus) gateway to restore functionality. The backup battery would need to be unplugged from the module while car power is interrupted.

2WD mode same as Dyno mode? |

Hey all. this weekend i'm gonna do some righteous burnouts.
But in all seriousness, I have been testing and logging performance upgrades for the JB4 Tuning module. I've got about 3 years and 30,000 miles of data and updates to drop, but I need dyno numbers to give to burger... i haven't been able to get someone with a true rolling road to give me time for something they're not tuning (plus people tend to sneer at volvos)
Anyway, I'm going to check if an AWD car can truly function in 2WD. If so, we've found a work around to getting the car dyno'd! Here's to good luck!

Supposed "Autopilot/Handsfree Highway Assist/Lane Change asssist” etc. |

So after playing with several settings and trying to get it to change lanes on its own it doesn't do more than pilot assist. Granted, I think I did see that the warning for apply steering went away, the efficacy of lane keeping with pilot assist went way down. Like it bounced around in the lane a lot more and was more unsure of itself.
After a few hours and a half tank of gas driving around trying to make sure I wasn't tweaking, I can safely say I'm going to leave pilot assist active and not try any of the other autonomous driving features. I haven't figured out the correct combination to get them to truly enable autonomous driving and other options activated just sort of degrade the performance of the system.
Has anyone had success with these?

Hi!
Does anyone tried to remove steering column lock? US cars usually do not have it, European - do.
There's variant code
067 STEERING COLUMN LOCK
"01 Without Steering Column Lock
02 With Steering Column Lock variant 1
03 With Steering Column Lock variant 2"
Tried SL01 - without steering column lock. DTC about SCL disappeared, but car won't start.
BTW, there are different descriptions for SL:
- Above SL02 is as " With Steering Column Lock variant 1 ", but VIDA shows SL02 as "SL02 STEER. COLUMN LOCK/KEY WARNING Without steering column lock, Key warning enabled".
- SL03 is as "03 With Steering Column Lock variant 2", but VIDA on Variant attributes has "SL03 STEER. COLUMN LOCK/KEY WARNING With steering column lock, Key warning disabled"

The first official OrBit update is out. The latest version of OrBit will now always be downloaded from: https://spaycetech.azurewebsites.net/orb...e/download
New features:
"DID" Reading - Read data from ECUs with dropdown menu of hundreds of ECU data fields, on ECU Tools tab
Usage Mode Control - OrBit now switches to Active mode when needed, you do not need to manually set the car in "Active" mode when connecting OrBit
PH/EV contactor control - OrBit automatically opens high voltage battery contactors when programming on PHEV and EV models (* except pre-2020 T8 models, coming soon)
Automatic ABS Clear Config - When changing known config items that need "ABS Clear Config" run, OrBit automatically runs it in post-programming step
Update Notifications - OrBit will now notify you when starting the application that an updated version is available and prompt to download the installer.
Fixes and Improvements:
ECU Reset improved (asynchronous command), reconnect to car when VCM/TCAM gateway is reset
Write Config change confirmation now scrollable report window (won't go off screen)
Faster ECU checks, reduced flashing/config programming time
Added additional ECU info to databases
ECU addresses replaced with names displayed in most cases for easier self troubleshooting (misbehaving ECUs)
More frequent log upload for better support
General improvements to programming process reliability
CARCFG(Variant codes) backup saved when config write
General Improvements to smooth connecting a "new" car, creating profile and set PIN(s)
Bug fix: "license not found" when capital letters in registered account email address
Bug fix: flashing fail when Config Logic has been backed up from the car
Bug fix: ABS Clear Config "fail" on cars with BCM2
Bug fix: flashing fail due to engine status check on some models
Bug fix: flashing fail due to PXML or PXMR ECU not responding
Bug fix: Load/Save settings disabled when car not connected (unreliable when disconnected)
Known Issues:
DID reading "results" interpretation may be incorrect. Most data fields are working, but not all "data types" are implemented correctly yet (ex: reading "part number" information from ECUs) work is ongoing to for future updates to get to 100%.
Pre-2020 T8 will fail to flash if HV Battery contactors are not in "open" state. I am working on discovering the contactor control process for these models, to add to next update

103 Exterior Lights Signature and 104 Turn Signal Type |

Stock setting is 02 (Basic illumination only on/off) but there are 5 other illumination configs.
Just curious what this might do
Also 104 Turn Signal Type--it give an option for sequential. Since I am not aware of Volvo changing the turns to be sequential, perhaps the stock head/taillights are capable? Assuming it work like some other brands where the light "sweeps" on rather than completely on/off at once.
Anyone mess with these yet?

Active high beams for us non-bendy folk |

Starting another thread to check and see what other folks are using for settings if you don't have the bendy headlights.
Currently at
106 09 LED without bending lights
109 03 AHB1 High beam in small village
256 01 without bending lights
Have some long drives into Vermont and upstate NY this weekend so it is a perfect time to try new settings. I've had this feature before so I know what it is supposed to be like and I have seen zero active light functionality. If anything, the auto high beams seem less aggressive than before--particularly driving around neighborhoods where there may be some amount of ambient light.
Do I need to enable anything in Sensus?
Are my setting incorrect?
Am I expecting too much with the limited non-bendy lights?
