New "Auto" mode under One Pedal Drive for '24 XC40/C40 BEV
Posted by: A-P - 09-24-2023, 02:24 AM - Forum: Safety - Replies (3)

I was browsing XC40forums.com and noticed the '24 XC40/C40 have a new "Auto" mode under the One Pedal Drive settings. Curious if we could potentially enable this on older models... Anyone here have a '24 model so we can compare configs? :-)

Question - if you have enabled navigation on Sensus with OrBit...
Posted by: Power6 - 09-24-2023, 02:20 AM - Forum: Retrofitting - Replies (6)

For anyone that has enabled navigation with Sensus, using OrBit...Does the function of changing the dash display info setting in the settings on the IHU to show the nav map work? Got a customer who enabled navigation and when he sets the dash display to show the map, the gauges get smaller as if it's working, but the map doesn't show in the DIM, just blank. The "music info" and "none" setting options work, it seems all is well but the can't get the map display.

Trying to see if this is a specific car problem or maybe there is another config item that needs to be done to make that work, or what might be the problem.

XC60 retrofit - seats, steering wheel, battery
Posted by: Polestar - 09-19-2023, 09:48 PM - Forum: Misc - Replies (6)

As most of other folks around here, I have a car that doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and I'd like to change that.
I've got a few questions that have been asked by others on Reddit and swedespeed in the past, however some of those are several years old now, well before OrBit (and are therefore vaguely answered or had a stance that retrofits in general rarely work or that it's better to just buy another car), so I am hoping someone can answer these:

1.) Does anyone know if seats and steering wheel from XC40 are the same as on XC60? I've read someplace that apparently all seats are the same on SPA (I know for a fact that it wasn't the case on P3), but I don't remember ever seeing info regarding steering wheels (I'd like to retrofit a heated steering wheel)
2.) Are the steering wheel clock springs and modules still required to do a heated steering wheel retrofit? (For P3, Accessories offered it as option for retrofit by dealer, and there it clearly said what was required, and for SPA I get nadda.)
3.) What is required in order to install seats with memory, ventilation and massage? I've read someplace that even though cables might be there, there's a good chance that main witing harness may be significantly different, thus making a retrofit much more complicated and that much more expensive...
4.) Is it possible (and if it is, what is required) to do a MY22 DIM and infotainment retrofit?
5.) What is required to do a T8 battery upgrade? (Except battery itself, obviously.) Is it just a config change, or some other modules are required as well?
6.) How do you in general figure out what hardware is needed in order to do a successful and complete retrofit?

Adding motion / tilt sensors to CMA vehicles
Posted by: A-P - 09-16-2023, 09:31 PM - Forum: Retrofitting - Replies (19)

Hi there,

I have a '23 XC40 Recharge BEV, purchased in the North American market, and noticed the lack of a "reduced alarm mode". This is apparently well known in various Volvo forums, but it seems recent NA Volvos (a) lack the Interior Motion Sensor (IMS) module and (b) come with a Battery Backed Siren (BBS) module which (potentially) lacks a tilt sensor. So there's no "reduced" alarm mode given the lack of an "enhanced" mode.

This led me on a (ongoing) journey to retrofit my vehicle with those sensors -- following in the footsteps of Power6, who has done the same on his SPA car (and gave some helpful pointers).

I've successfully added and tested the IMS module, but would appreciate the community's help on the tilt sensor.

I believe these instructions should work on all CMA cars (Polestar 2, XC40, and C40).

Adding the IMS module:

  1. Purchase an IMS module (P/N 31652852). I got mine from Riley (the product photo is wrong): https://parts.rileyvolvocarsstamford.com...52852.html
  2. Volvo has some high-level install instructions posted here: https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/...C40%202023
    • I found success using a wider tool to pop off the panel. There are a handful of clips, and I recommend starting from the front corners and working your way back (the back, closest to the windshield is just a hinge type clip). It takes a bit of force...:
    •
    • You'll then need to disconnect the wiring harness from the panel:
    •
    • You should find a pre-routed green connector for the IMS folded back and taped to the cable (not hidden in the headliner):
    •
    • Attach the IMS to the panel you just pulled off (it should just click in):
    •
    • Connect the old wiring harness as you found it, and the new one to the IMS, then put it all back together:
    •
  3. Using OrBit, change setting 65 "Interior Motion Sensor" from "01 Without" to "03 Interior Movement Sensor Preparation". There's an official VIDA software download to do the same, but Volvo does not allow it in our market. But that's why we have OrBit!

You should now see a new "Reduced Alarm Mode" setting in the Controls menu. You can validate if the car is "seeing" the module using OrBit by clicking "Update Profile" and then confirming if "IMS" shows up in the "Active Diag ECU" drop down of the "ECU Tools" tab.

Testing is easy:
  1. Roll down a window
  2. Leave the car
  3. Lock it
  4. Wait at least 2 minutes for the alarm to arm
  5. Stick your arm in the car and wave it around.

Now on to the tilt sensor...
My vehicle came with BBS P/N 31652493 (which I found by querying the BBS for the "ECU Delivery Assembly Part Number" in the ECU Tools tab of OrBit). After a thorough Google search:
  • I couldn't really figure out if this module already has a tilt sensor, and it's just disabled in software (setting 66 "Inclination Sensor" in OrBit)
  • On Riley's site, both 31652493 and 31652494 show as compatible with my vehicle. I couldn't figure how these two differ.
  • I attempted searching EU-based used parts sites, but the couple I found showed both the above part numbers (31652493 and 31652494).

If anyone here is based in the EU and has a recent CMA car, would you mind checking what your BBS part number is?

I have a hunch the numbers are the same for EU and NA, and the OrBit software change is enough to enable it. I could just try enabling it myself and test, but I don't own a proper garage jack (to lift the vehicle slightly, triggering the alarm) -- and out of pure laziness, I want to avoid using the included jack unless I really have to  Smile

Thank you!
AP

EDIT: I should have added, it seems Volvo may be tightening up their hardware / software compatibility checks according to Power6, and VIDA may complain about the IMS if you try doing a "Total Upgrade" (but it won't get you blocked or anything for trying). My car is on software 2.10 and the OTA release is out for 2.11; I'll update here if there are any issues with that OTA update when I finally receive it.

Does a Polestar 2 without Plus Pack have Pixel headlights  or do they have different hardware? I know you can activate the Pixel technology but can it be done with the standard LED headlights? Asking for a MY23 standard Polestar 2 without Pilot or Plus pack.

Request to make OrBit field windows resizable
Posted by: quattro4awd - 09-14-2023, 08:18 PM - Forum: OrBit Q&A - Ask your questions here! - Replies (4)

First off I would like to express my Thanks to all individuals involved in getting OrBit up and functional. without this software I would be pretty much SOL on being able to implement the modifications that I would like to add to the S60. It appears that the majority of the modifications I am trying/wanting to make for the S60 are "factory installed options" and not considered "accessories" which means that software like OrBit is necessary to implement their functionality (because it is obvious that Volvo is not a willing participant in helping individual vehicle owners implement such modifications even if all the necessary parts are sourced directly from a Volvo dealer).

I have a few questions / requests that I hope can be implemented in a future build of OrBit. please see below.

1). would it be possible to make the fields inside the OrBit window resizable? (as you can see with certain line items in the configurator window - the descriptions are truncated and hovering above them with the mouse pointer does not pop an un-truncated visual description to help provide it's full details even when the OrBit window is maximized to full size)

[Image: AIL4fc8FXUz3ajzMQnWmtv9qGYJ0WhEtSxeaAMfh...authuser=0]

2). the task progress window at the bottom is limited in what can be viewed at a glance, can this be made to be adjustable in size so that more lines are visible at one time without having to scroll through them all?

3). would it be possible to change font colors or some other type of indication in this progress window specifically for line items that have failed to be properly implemented?

[Image: AIL4fc8w1vZeHH1cU8LqjGA6ZDODQXAyiFW3rk6_...authuser=0]

Thanks again, I do appreciate all your effort in bringing this useful tool to fruition and making it available to the masses.

  Tailgate switch
Posted by: Duffy - 09-14-2023, 01:21 PM - Forum: Retrofitting - Replies (4)

Hello everyone,

is it possible to activate the switch even if you don't have keyless entry? It annoys me because I only have the left button and that I have to lock the car with the remote control after closing it.

Thank you

Meaning of CEM settings - Orbit list
Posted by: CarstenStange - 09-13-2023, 04:06 PM - Forum: Misc - No Replies

Hello Power6 and everyone else.

Can someone explain to me what function is behind the following CEM settings (Orbit list codes)?
                     SAFETY COACH 213
                     STOP IN SPEED VELOCITY 044
                     DSRC UNIT 205
                     RUNNINGBOARD, ACCESSORIES 213

At the moment i use 18 cem changes, some with hardware modification (Subwoofer, B&W, CompactDisc, Remote Start, central lock switch rear doors... for example).
My car is a 2017 D5 Inscription. The changes works fine, also with functions that were not available in the model year, such as the curve speed assist.
I try to find out more, what the software and the car can. There were a few errors when trying  to find out what work or not :-)

THANK YOU MUCH POWER6 FOR THE GOOD WORK AND THE SOFTWAR
