Thank you for such a nice tool for configuring and service new volvo cars. I have a Volvo XC40 and Orbit works amazing in all questions related to the car configuring.
I have one problem. Orbit always reports oil level equals to 0 mm. You can see it on the attached screenshot. I tried to run "Oil Level Reset" but I got these logs:
Code:
Starting Oil Level reset
ECU command FAILED!
Error Reason: Error in response from ECM
Could you please help me to solve this problem? I'm using the latest OrBit version. But I had the same problem on the previous versions.
**updated Feb 2025** When you write config to the car, or otherwise flash a module with software using OrBit, it may fail and you will see some errors in the screen console. But some issues depend on the computer or other things outside of what OrBit can control. Here are some typical errors and fixes for troubleshooting:
(Note: I want to clarify since it seems people mention this often when flash fails, "it doesn't work when I change XX setting"...it doesn't matter which config settings you are changing. That has no effect on the flashing process, whether it is successful or fails. The programming process does not care what the contents of the data are, it either works or it doesn't)
If Write Config, Restore to OEM or other software flash fails and you see any of the following messages in the screen log in OrBit:
Error reconnecting to the gateway after programming mode request
Gateway network not returned in time, update network card drivers and turn off power save settings?
Gateway (VCM/TCAM) did not return in time from prog mode boot request!
Follow the below steps to address some known issues that can cause this problem
For Sensus cars, try resetting the VCM gateway with OrBit:
In OrBit, connect to the car
Switch to the ECU Tools tab
Change the Active ECU dropdown to VCM
Click the "Reset ECU" button
There is no harm in resetting an ECU, it is equivalent to rebooting your PC
Wait for OrBit to reconnect after resetting the gateway ECU
Try write config/flash again and see if it succeeds
For AAOS cars, try resetting the TCAM gateway in the car:
In the car, push the front defogger button on the climate control, hold for 10-20 secs until the "SOS" button in the overhead console flashes
Release the front defogger button
Wait a few minutes, try to connect to the car with OrBit
Try write config/flash again and see if it succeeds
If the "SOS" button does not flash when trying the TCAM reset, the TCAM is not responding, move on to the battery reset
...If restarting the gateway does not resolve the problem, perform a battery reset:
Disconnect the negative terminal from the 12V battery
Wait a minute
Reconnect the negative battery terminal
Try write config/flash again and see if it succeeds
...If the battery reset does not resolve the problem, look at the local computer for possible issue, first rule out a firewall issue:
Disable the Windows Defender Firewall temporarily
Try write config/flash again and see if it succeeds
If you have a 3rd party AV program with firewall function, you will need to check vendor specific information to temporarily disable the firewall function
...If the firewall disable does not solve the problem, check network card driver power settings in Windows:
Open "Device Manager" in Windows
Expand the "Network adapters" node
Find the wired adapter, this should have "ethernet" in the name (example below)
Right click the adpater and choose "Properties"
Switch to the Power Management tab (if present)
Uncheck the box to allow the computer to turn the device off
Switch to the Advanced tab
In the advanced tab there is a list of "features" on the left and the "setting value" dropdown on the right
Look through the list of features and find the "power saving" type settings, and disable them, these can be a cause of problems for automotive diagnostics. Below is a list of the known settings that could be a problem. Disable these features if present:
Energy Efficient Ethernet
Link Speed Battery Saver
System Idle Power Saver
Ultra Low Power Mode
Selective Suspend
Force Suspend
Green Ethernet
Suspend AutoDetach
When done, click "OK" and close Device Manager.
Disconnect OrBit if it is connected
Remove and re-plug the OBD end of the VOE adapter to the car
Connect to the car in OrBit
Try write config/flash again and see if it succeeds
...If flashing still fails, other things you can try:
reboot the computer
check for network card driver updates in Windows optional updates (or specific to the computer vendor or network card manufacturer)
Uninstall and reinstall OrBit
If you have another compatible computer avaialble, try installing OrBit and write a config
...If all else has failed to resolve the issue, you will probably want to contact support-at-spaycetech.com by email and we will take a closer look at your specific issue.
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum in order to change the configuration of my new Volvo vehicle.
I took the plunge by leaving Audi ?.
I am looking for some information to activate the ACC of my vehicle, it has intellisafe assist and I would like to know if the ACC only uses the camera on the windshield or you have to have the radar in the grille of the vehicle for it to work ?
I have a question about a OEM setting of our Polestar 2. In the OEM settings number 457 (inflatable curtain) and 458 (front side airbags) the setting is 'without inflatable curtain' and 'without front side airbags', I haven't changed these settings. I don't understand why these are disabled, because the car is equipped with side and curtain airbags. Does anyone else have the same OEM settings in Orbit with the side airbags and inflatable curtains on their P2 or Volvo? I dont know why there should be disabled.
I was browsing XC40forums.com and noticed the '24 XC40/C40 have a new "Auto" mode under the One Pedal Drive settings. Curious if we could potentially enable this on older models... Anyone here have a '24 model so we can compare configs? :-)
For anyone that has enabled navigation with Sensus, using OrBit...Does the function of changing the dash display info setting in the settings on the IHU to show the nav map work? Got a customer who enabled navigation and when he sets the dash display to show the map, the gauges get smaller as if it's working, but the map doesn't show in the DIM, just blank. The "music info" and "none" setting options work, it seems all is well but the can't get the map display.
Trying to see if this is a specific car problem or maybe there is another config item that needs to be done to make that work, or what might be the problem.
few weeks ago I saw a post with link to some forum in Sweden with info regarding this retrofit.
I can't find it and hoping that one of you saved it and can post it here.
edit... I found something here. I searched on Swedespeed
As most of other folks around here, I have a car that doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and I'd like to change that.
I've got a few questions that have been asked by others on Reddit and swedespeed in the past, however some of those are several years old now, well before OrBit (and are therefore vaguely answered or had a stance that retrofits in general rarely work or that it's better to just buy another car), so I am hoping someone can answer these:
1.) Does anyone know if seats and steering wheel from XC40 are the same as on XC60? I've read someplace that apparently all seats are the same on SPA (I know for a fact that it wasn't the case on P3), but I don't remember ever seeing info regarding steering wheels (I'd like to retrofit a heated steering wheel)
2.) Are the steering wheel clock springs and modules still required to do a heated steering wheel retrofit? (For P3, Accessories offered it as option for retrofit by dealer, and there it clearly said what was required, and for SPA I get nadda.)
3.) What is required in order to install seats with memory, ventilation and massage? I've read someplace that even though cables might be there, there's a good chance that main witing harness may be significantly different, thus making a retrofit much more complicated and that much more expensive...
4.) Is it possible (and if it is, what is required) to do a MY22 DIM and infotainment retrofit?
5.) What is required to do a T8 battery upgrade? (Except battery itself, obviously.) Is it just a config change, or some other modules are required as well?
6.) How do you in general figure out what hardware is needed in order to do a successful and complete retrofit?
I have a '23 XC40 Recharge BEV, purchased in the North American market, and noticed the lack of a "reduced alarm mode". This is apparently well known in various Volvo forums, but it seems recent NA Volvos (a) lack the Interior Motion Sensor (IMS) module and (b) come with a Battery Backed Siren (BBS) module which (potentially) lacks a tilt sensor. So there's no "reduced" alarm mode given the lack of an "enhanced" mode.
This led me on a (ongoing) journey to retrofit my vehicle with those sensors -- following in the footsteps of Power6, who has done the same on his SPA car (and gave some helpful pointers).
I've successfully added and tested the IMS module, but would appreciate the community's help on the tilt sensor.
I believe these instructions should work on all CMA cars (Polestar 2, XC40, and C40).
I found success using a wider tool to pop off the panel. There are a handful of clips, and I recommend starting from the front corners and working your way back (the back, closest to the windshield is just a hinge type clip). It takes a bit of force...:
You'll then need to disconnect the wiring harness from the panel:
You should find a pre-routed green connector for the IMS folded back and taped to the cable (not hidden in the headliner):
Attach the IMS to the panel you just pulled off (it should just click in):
Connect the old wiring harness as you found it, and the new one to the IMS, then put it all back together:
Using OrBit, change setting 65 "Interior Motion Sensor" from "01 Without" to "03 Interior Movement Sensor Preparation". There's an official VIDA software download to do the same, but Volvo does not allow it in our market. But that's why we have OrBit!
You should now see a new "Reduced Alarm Mode" setting in the Controls menu. You can validate if the car is "seeing" the module using OrBit by clicking "Update Profile" and then confirming if "IMS" shows up in the "Active Diag ECU" drop down of the "ECU Tools" tab.
Testing is easy:
Roll down a window
Leave the car
Lock it
Wait at least 2 minutes for the alarm to arm
Stick your arm in the car and wave it around.
Now on to the tilt sensor...
My vehicle came with BBS P/N 31652493 (which I found by querying the BBS for the "ECU Delivery Assembly Part Number" in the ECU Tools tab of OrBit). After a thorough Google search:
I couldn't really figure out if this module already has a tilt sensor, and it's just disabled in software (setting 66 "Inclination Sensor" in OrBit)
On Riley's site, both 31652493 and 31652494 show as compatible with my vehicle. I couldn't figure how these two differ.
I attempted searching EU-based used parts sites, but the couple I found showed both the above part numbers (31652493 and 31652494).
If anyone here is based in the EU and has a recent CMA car, would you mind checking what your BBS part number is?
I have a hunch the numbers are the same for EU and NA, and the OrBit software change is enough to enable it. I could just try enabling it myself and test, but I don't own a proper garage jack (to lift the vehicle slightly, triggering the alarm) -- and out of pure laziness, I want to avoid using the included jack unless I really have to
Thank you!
AP
EDIT: I should have added, it seems Volvo may be tightening up their hardware / software compatibility checks according to Power6, and VIDA may complain about the IMS if you try doing a "Total Upgrade" (but it won't get you blocked or anything for trying). My car is on software 2.10 and the OTA release is out for 2.11; I'll update here if there are any issues with that OTA update when I finally receive it.
Does a Polestar 2 without Plus Pack have Pixel headlights or do they have different hardware? I know you can activate the Pixel technology but can it be done with the standard LED headlights? Asking for a MY23 standard Polestar 2 without Pilot or Plus pack.
