How to work with headlamps and HCMs in OrBit (flashing, config, used HCM install)

If the car has LED headlamps, there are modules on the headlamp units to drive the LEDs, and the adaptive functions. The modules are not ECUs in the car loaded with software, they are just hardware controlled by the CEM through LIN bus communications.

It looks like the HCM was introduce to the SPA for 2017 MY on the LED headlamp equipped models.

Hi, i sent a PM to you asking for help on this,
I have a 2016 UK model XC90 Inscription which i have brought to Spain and we want to keep it, but to meet the Spanish law for registering it legally, the beam pattern requires adjustment and on the car this is not possible, took it to a Volvo dealer in Spain and they stated the headlights require replacing, they gave me the equivilent model numbers and managed to source them used from Poland.
Swapped the modules over from the UK lights etc but when turning the car on it has a list of errors, mainly the daytime running lights no longer work and both front indicators do not work, have downloaded Orbit and these are the errors below:
CEM-B11D013 - DayTime Running Light Left (DRL)- General Electrical Failures- Circuit open
CEM-B11DC13 - DayTime Running Light Right (DRL)- General Electrical Failures- Circuit open
CEM-B123A12 - Left Front Turn Indicator- General Electrical Failures- Circuit short to battery
CEM-B123A13 - Left Front Turn Indicator- General Electrical Failures- Circuit open
CEM-B123B12 - Right Front Turn Indicator- General Electrical Failures- Circuit short to battery
CEM-U100D87 - TPMS Information From HMI / DIM- Bus Signal / Message Failures- Missing message
Any help and suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

The modules are paired with the headlights while installing (HCM reload) and car's configuration (headlight type, Bending and etc.) should be changed accordingly.
Support team might have the correct software for your car. You just need to flash them and match the configuration according to replacement headlights (full led or mid) bending or not and etc.

You can also go to VOLVO dealer and they should be able use the VIDA and reload both HCMs one after another.

Just a quick update to say with thanks from Support (Andrew) the correct modules that should have been paired with the headlights were required, purchased used ones from Aliexpress of all places, popped them on and Bingo, she's  lighting up the roads. Just off on the 4 hour trip to the other side of Spain for the import test, hopefully no issues this time. Thank you all for your support.

Hello from Germany,
i'm upgrading the Headlights on my 2019 V60 right now. I've got some decent used ones from eBay and some good used HCM's also from a 2019 V60 from an different seller, where the parts Vendor was so nice to write the correct side of the modules on it Big Grin I have now changed the right side, the HCM responses as HCMR and the Headlight, Turn Signal etc. works. Do I have to flash the HCM anyways ? Where can i get the correct SBL/VBF Files ? The Number of the HCM's is 31427776, right Headlight 32365340, left Headlight 32338000. The Headlights where produced around 2021/2022.

Kind regards

Quick answer YES!
Two important things.
1) The flashing via Orbit or reloading software via VIDA is not just programming Left or right side. It also pairs the headlight assembly to the controller and programs the controller accordingly so that headlight functions correctly. (Beam level, pattern and power). It does that with the code and production date printed on the sticker.

2)Even if you flash the ECUs via Orbit with entering the headlight info (printed on the sticker). VIDA will detect the HCMs as HW change and force you to reload them before letting you to perform total upgrade.

In this situation,
You will need to purchase and install "HCM reload" via VIDA without selecting any side.  This will reload the both HCMs and update the VOLVO db with the replaced modules.
After that, you will need to reflash both headlight units with the information on the stickers via Orbit.

If you choose side during HCM reload on VIDA. You will need to purchase the same HCM reload for the other side too.
In US the HCM reload costs around $100. So, you will be saving $100 by not choosing a side and reflashing via Orbit afterwards.
