Can't connect to PS2 - previously have
#1
Got Orbit a little while back.  Turned on pixel headlights, a few other tweaks, worked great, zero connection/config issues, didn't change any firewall settings/etc. on the laptop.  Had to take it into Polestar for non-functioning seat heaters.  Before going in, connected, returned to stock.  Got car back from Polestar after a friggin' month.  Hooked up the laptop to restore my changes in Orbit.  It won't connect no matter what I do.  Same laptop, same Orbit install, same cable, same adapter, same same same.

2022 Polestar 2, software P3.1.9.

Windows 11 home
USB ethernet adapter
Amazon ODB2 connector

Tried:
  • Changing order of plugging in USB adapter, OBD2 connector, and starting Orbit
  • Door open and shut
  • Car plugged in and not plugged in
  • Car in drive and car in park
  • Windows Firewall on and off (for Domain, Private, and Public networks)
  • adding custom rule to outbound connections for the OrbitApp.exe

Orbit output:
OrBit v1.0.9
OrBit Disconnected

It is recommended to power off the negative electrode of the 12V battery and the backup battery of the trunk BUB for 10 minutes, restore the vehicle in the reverse order, and reconnect the OBD to take a look, it should be able to connect.

Thanks.  I think you're describing a TCAM reset right?  I've not tried that, so I'll give it a shot tonight/this weekend.

@shortyjacobs Did the TCAM reset help? I'm having the same issues on my Polestar 2 2021 with P.3.1.9.
Haven't been using OrBit for a month, but today when testing I cannot connect.

Update: Problem "solved" - downgraded to 0.9.96 and it immediately connected, so it seems to be an issue with 1.0.9

Where did you find 0.9.96 SW to downgrade? I found the release notes but thats it. I am having the same issue timming out the connecting to the car after is claims it found the car, tried the TCAM reset using the maxdefrost button but that didnt help any.

There is not an issue with v1.0.9. Well I am always open minded but nothing had changed in the connection process anyways. Although Lysgard contact me if you are still using old version and that problem is reproducible, you don't want to keep using old version, it's not going to work forever for you and I am not too proud to fix bugs!

99% of issues connecting is with the car, commonly when it's a new user with a new car, but does happen other times.

The basic troubleshooting tree for AAOS car is:
  • Try the TCAM reset (hold fron defogger button ~20sec, look for SOS button overhead to flash, then let go of the button, TCAM is restarting)
  • If that doesn't work, try battery reset - disconnect/reconnect 12V battery
  • If still not working, the TCAM may need to be re-powered, it has a backup battery so to truly re-power it, you have to pull fuse, or disconnect the 12V battery, while you also find and unplug the BuB (backup battery) from the TCAM. Location differs by model, but you can Google and find model specific info in many forums, as the TCAM is well known to have some problems and need this process occasionally.

Hi Power6,

I have tried all of your suggested troubleshooting and have still not been able to connect to the car (had the 12v and BuB disconnected for 30 mins). Orbit finds the car but then times out with the gateway. Windows defender firewall is disabled and when I have the VOE plugged in my laptop does show it connected to an unidentified network so I believe that is all working. I have noted that neither an OBD2 reader or Vdash seem to be able to connect with the car either, checked fuse 31 under the glove box and it is in good shape.

I cant seem to find any other options beyond the TCAM reset to be able to reestablish coms, have any ideas? Thanks for your help.

@Power6 I was in a hurry as I was going on a longer trip and wanted to bring Orbit with me just in case. So I didn't make a deeper faultfinding.
The only thing I can say is that 0.9.96 immediately connected with the same hardware (PC/cable) as trying with 1.0.9.

I did though save some logfiles - I you want them I can send them to you.
If you want me to try to reproduce the connection issue I experienced with 1.0.9 you'll most likely have to wait until the weekend.

Try this.
Connect the cable to the car and then to PC but do not launch the Orbit yet.
Check the network adaptor is connected at 100mbps and link lights are blinking.
Turn the ignition pos 2 then launch the Orbit and try to connect.
