Key coding

Generally 2017 and earlier not suported. Some 2018 and most 2019+. It depends for the newer models if they are spec'd with the HIGH CEM (supported) vs the MID CEM (not supported). In some markets like the US all the cars look to have the HIGH CEM 2019-up.

Some newer cars in other markets though, have an updated MID spec CEM using the old processor, which isn't supported.

It's complicated to just have a simple statement about it (see above lol), you can't just tell if the car has a supported CEM, so that's why I had to handle it through OrBit checking and reporting if supported. And even THAT has gone through a couple updates, to not give false hope saying the CEM is supported and then fail the extract :-(

Would it be possible to swap in used CEM with 5748G processor and code CEM to car and then have key programming capability?

Is there any way to retrive security pin for an XC40? Can’t do it with orbit.
Need to program an extra key. Going to the dealer might be the only option?

Today tried program two spare keys from Ali, unfortunately no luck. In the end orbit shows error and process has stopped.

I have already entered my Security PIN, this was confirmed as ok. Also I have changed battery for new key, placed it as it shows in manual,  but still no luck.

I was completely surprised, but this morning it worked for me.
I just picked up a pre-owned 2020 XC40 T5 a few weeks ago.

Have no clue if it was at all what helped, but I did a total upgrade within VIDA - once wrapped up, unplugged and let the car sit over night. In the morning I ran the program key option in OrBit and it was able to crack the key.

I originally did the CEM package with our fella Andrew from Spaycetech. According to OrBit, the key did not have what was needed to crack the key. Out of confusion, I had thought if I bought VIDA, and wireshark captured the CEM key there, it would have what was needed. OrBit read the log and the key ended be being the same exact one that Andrew provided me. Now with 3 days to mess around with VIDA, I took advantage of the time and performed the total upgrade within VIDA (last one was done in 2020, according to the order history record VIDA showed me for my VIN).

Maybe it was that, or maybe it was some random luck, but I now have my security pin for my XC40. I still need to solder new batteries to two activity keys I just got off eBay, then I’ll test if I can actually program the car with that security key. (BTW, this is the exact battery, including the terminal tabs in the activity keys - CR-2032L/F1N)

Hmm, so this can be dependent on software level as well?
According to what I've read earlier it's all dependent on specific hardware and that the XC40 has the "wrong" CEM for extracting the PIN.

Great it worked out for you  Big Grin

You can get security pin only from ~2018y cars.

I couldn't figure out from previous posts, is it possible to program orange key as care key using OrBit?
