My car is fitted with an ISUDAR carplay unit.  This unit connects between the car and the main display (intercepting connectors) and also connects to the CAN bus.

Is it likely that VIDA will detect and complain about this unit?

Is there any way I can use Orbit to check how the car sees it, ie is it a rogue unit?

All in All this volvo policy is blocking vida total upgrades.
Is there a workaround?

Can such total upgrade be done by orbit instead?

Do upgrade files differ between cars?
Does vida create a custom software package for one car so it does not fit the other car (signed with VIN or so?

How can I do reload via Orbit? What exactly is needed?

Yes, just disconnect the replaced ECUs or put back the original ECUs if possible BEFORE connecting the car to VIDA.  Or just purchase the reload from VIDA for the replaced ECUs.

In theory you could if you have the decrypted vbf files and SBL (boot loader) files.  However, getting them is not easy, you will need to order the files from the vida and before installing them you need to copy them to another location. Because after installation completes, VIDA deletes them.  Once you have the files, you will need to decrypt them. How? I don't really know.

Yes, they are different for each car they are compiled by VOLVO servers and downloaded by VIDA according to to VIN of the car, current software / HW parts and etc.  Same model and year car might have completely different "total upgrade" packages. 

Here is the real question though? What are you trying to save or achieve here to get into all this trouble? 
1) Total upgrades are not mandatory, some cars have never done it since they left the factory! Unless there is a specific recall. 
2) Total upgrade is free, you just need $90 3 days VIDA subscription to perform it. You can use that time to download every single document you need for your car. Learn about how systems in the car works.  You can also gather information for any other VOLVO car by entering the VIN number.

What do you think about this?

OrBit will detect current modules and won’t as far as I know be able to identify changes unless you capture all modules on first read and then compare later.

I don't think the ISUDAR box acts as a "module" as such.  It does read the CAN stream and possibly sends CAN commands but the latter only when it is doing something.

The car is going to a Volvo indy tomorrow who will connect it to VIDA so I'll find out!

A piggy back module -as yours is - should present no issue with Vida. It’s likely totally undetectable.

What do you think about this?
I watched couple of videos about how it's installed and operates from the manufacturer. There are several different ones mostly from Ali Express but in general they all act in the same way.  

First things first, 
IHU is NOT a can bus unit. It's LIN master and FlexRay unit. 
The android box is placed between the IHU and the center display thus that gives you option switching between the IHU or the android auto box on the screen.  While switching between the regular sensus and the android bot, both center display and the IHU still think that they are connected. That's why it does not generate any DTC.  
Yes, the android unit is connected to FlexRay in parallel to capture and send back messages to IHU and rest of the units. Such as detecting volume, reverse and etc. 
I don't think VIDA would detect it since it is not registered ECU known to VIDA.  Worse case, it may throw some DTC in diagnostic mode but wouldn't block the car for the total upgrade. 
   

Having said that, 
There is a configuration option in the Orbit called "foreign device "equipment" detection. Mine is disabled "without" from the factory. 
Not sure what is it for and how it operates. It might be related to retrofitted non-volvo device, controller maybe not.

The car has now been connected to VIDA for diagnosis of my keyless issue and the ISUDAR was not detected, thanks for the comments in particular IMAY2023. Incidentally, I checked the "foreign device equipment detection" in my config and it is also set to "without".

BTW the ISUDAR is not an android box per se although I guess it could be running some sort of android based OS.  The smartphone provides the AA/carplay data (via WiFi) and the box routes it to the display.  No-one said the IHU is CAN, indeed if it was there would be no need for the extra connection from the ISUDAR box to the CAN bus.

I read some thread on swedespeed that Sensus OTA/app/map-updates is uploading configuration data to Volvos database.

Has anyone experienced issues because of this?
I’ve been using updates after enabling nav and some other tweaking. Is there anything I should do to not get a “blocked” vehicle?
