ACC/Pilot Assist Modification precautions

(07-24-2023, 03:27 PM)afranke Wrote: Sorry if this has been covered (I searched and couldn't find), but when it comes to ACC do we actually know what the "levels" mean?  I'll admit at one point I just upped all the PA/ACC stuff (on my '23 V60 PE) to whatever the highest level is for awhile.  It worked just fine, no errors and hundreds of miles without incident.  I recently reverted the config to stock to get service and used the ACC on the way, and it felt "better". I can't really describe how, just more situated.  I think there was less hunting between the lines, it seemed to actually follow closer, and the braking seemed smoother.
That got me thinking of possible reasons.  One idea that stuck out in my head is that maybe the "levels" are related to the size of the vehicle for PA/ACC calculations.  I wonder if by changing to a higher level I made the system think it was a different sized model.  This could cause issues with lane hunting as the software doesn't know the car isn't as wide as it thinks it is, so it's constantly trying to "fill" the middle of the lane with the wrong sized car.  On top, the following distance would probably be increased for a heavier vehicle as it would take longer to come to a complete stop.
I wish I could browse all of the default config data Orbit has pulled from cars to compare and see if there is a trend or "default" collection of settings for certain features or models.

023 CRUISE CONTROL

01 Without cruise control
02 With cruise control
03 Adaptive cruise control, level 1
04 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level1
05 not in use
06 Adaptive cruise control, level 2
07 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level 2
08 Adaptive cruise control, level 3
09 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level3

Also found this, but I'm not sure if this is related to the Pilot Assist, if someone could clarify that would be great

318 AUTO PILOT FUNCTION (HAD)

01 Without Auto Pilot
02 DM1.0
03 Auto Pilot level 1
04 Auto Pilot level 2
05 Auto Pilot level 3

Found on Google:

Level 1
Where the vehicle can be kept at a safe distance behind the next car, qualifies as Level 1 because the human driver monitors the other aspects of driving such as steering and braking.

Level 2
The vehicle can control both steering and accelerating/decelerating. Here the automation falls short of self-driving because a human sits in the driver’s seat and can take control of the car at any time.

Level 3
Vehicles have “environmental detection” capabilities and can make informed decisions for themselves, such as accelerating past a slow-moving vehicle. But―they still require human override. The driver must remain alert and ready to take control if the system is unable to execute the task.

Stop & Go
If traffic slows to a stop, most ACC systems will bring the car to a complete stop, then bring it back up to speed when traffic gets going again.

First of all  those below are not used and has no effect on any current volvos on the market. It was a concept designed only for some high ways in Sweden.
318 AUTO PILOT FUNCTION (HAD)

01 Without Auto Pilot
02 DM1.0
03 Auto Pilot level 1
04 Auto Pilot level 2
05 Auto Pilot level 3

Second the levels you see on google are generic info for cruise control and has nothing to do with 023 CRUISE CONTROL settings.
01 Without cruise control   > No cruise control at all.
02 With cruise control  > Standard cruise control.
03 Adaptive cruise control, level 1   >   Adaptive cruise control  (not pilot assist)
04 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level1  > Adaptive cruise control with pilot assist (steering assist)
05 not in use
06 Adaptive cruise control, level 2
07 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level 2
08 Adaptive cruise control, level 3
09 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level3

Regarding the levels,
There is no specific info on those and what are the differences. People here tried different settings but as far as I read no one reporter any noticeable difference.
Similarly for 314  ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL VERSION.

FYI,
The factory pilot assist upgrade from regular cruise control with changing the hydraulic unit sets the following values.
023 CRUISE CONTROL >  04 Adaptive cruise control stop & go, level1
314  ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL VERSION > 01 ACC version 1
I know this because I upgraded my 2019 volvo s60 officially before I know about Orbit software.

Thank you for your reply. I'm planing to change this configuration on my 2020 XC60 (mild-hybrid). Your info is very helpful.

Some info regarding PA and ACC. Till MY 2021 there were 2 types of hidraulic units. "weaker" and "more powerfull". They located on the left side, close to front left wiper. To check, wich one You have-open the cover to access brake fluide, then put Your phone on stick (or, if You have long hand) insert it there with camera on, and try to record video on unit's pump side. If You see 772 - old "weak" unit, if You see 774 - You good to go with acc activation and it will work smoothly.

@MarcoPolo This is what I have manage to find near brake fluid. Does any of these reference to hydraulic unit?

I guess second photo does, but I have 2020 XC60 from Germany, so not the same like in your post.

It is mild hybrid, Diesel + 48V self charged battery.

For hybrid different unit is used. I guess-it is matter of programming only to have proper ACC.  I would ask dealer to be sure. If they tell-you need to swap pump unit, check psrt number and try to find new one. If not-just use orbit to have what you want))

Mild hybrid, 2020, that looks like the "Brake by wire" unit. There is no physical "brake module" in the traditional brake system models, it's inside the VDDM unit which would be the electronics attached to the brake hydraulic unit.

Anyways, easy way to tell, check the ECU list on "ECU Tools" tab in OrBit. If you see "BCM2" in the list, you have the "brake by wire" system. There is no diference between car with or without Pilot Assist if you have the BCM2, you can enable config with OrBit ;-)

Thanks, I have already purchased OrBit Shy , waiting on cable to arrive from US, will keep you all posted...
