Any luck on changing from the earlier crystal one to the newer bigger one?

@Power6 Is it possible to make a workaround to use the newer style shifter on a vehicle designed for the double-tap first gen shifter?  They are definitely not interchangeable. Changing the harness doesn't work either.

You cannot make the newer larger unit fit onto a previous gen selector, Volvo changed how the 2 connect to the transmission module.
On the newer version it looks like the EGSM changed across the powertrain generations, moved to a different CAN Bus, it used to be on the powertrain bus, then moved to the "Mid CAN".
The only possibility I have found might work is to transfer the board from the older gear selector to the new selector. Casing look the same so it should work. However one would need to dissassemble both next to each other and have a look.

Update:

2022 XC60 Recharge matched with a 2025 Orrefors shifter, ZERO issues, zero reprogramming necessary.

I surmise it was something I did mid-cycle by leaving it attached and in neutral with the engine off for about 30 mins. I reconnected the old shifter, put the trans back in park, reconnected the new shifter and, somehow, problem solved.
