IHU

My replacement IHU came with SSD from a 2021 s60. I did not noticed any difference in the performance.
The only upside, I got the Jazz Club.

In general IHU is interchangeable between different models but always check if the replacement IHU part number is listed for your car.  The replacement IHU part number should be at least the supersession part number of the current part number that fits your car.

After you replace the IHU, you won't be able to download or update applications and maps due to mismatch.
In order to fix that you will need to connect the car to VIDA.
It will detect two HW changes.
1) Market change certificate
2) IHU reload.
You do not need to install "IHU reload".
You will need to order and install "Market change certificate" for $90 USD.  (make sure the battery is charged) alternatively, it is possible to install while the engine is running.
Once it's installed, you can refresh the Hardware changes TAB and IHU reload will disappear. and you will be able download and update software.

Thanks for the details!
What exactly does the Market change cert SW consist of?
Will it touch any other modules or only the IHU?

Cheers

I was about to update.
It costs $90 USD for the software. Plus you have the 3 days VIDA subscription $90 USD.
It updates CEM, VCM and IHU.  It just a certification file ties all three and VOLVO db.

Everything works fine after that but I have an issue with the RTP (Traffic Provider).  I just noticed that after installing the certificate, IHU lost its provider thus I no longer see Green, Yellow or RED lines in the NAV.

I do not know what exactly caused. Maybe something went wrong with my installation or not.

Thanks, got it. I'm familiar with VIDA and have used it in the past.

Just really struggling to figure out my best option moving forward..

Here's what I'm dealing with;
-US car in Europe
-In order to get FM radio working (all frequency steps, RDS etc) I've used Orbit to change the config up until now
-If I've understood correctly, this setting cannot be done through VIDA (why's that btw..), so that it would officially be recorded with the Volvo db.

Just got the car back from yearly service, and the IHU was updated and at the same the config reverted to US settings again..

Downsides:
- I have to run OrBit yearly (smaller problem)
- Whenever I decide to sell the car, the next owner might not be as interested in that operation (bigger problem).
Can only imagine their surprise when they get the car back from service and they've lost 1/2 of the radio channels..

Seems that pre-Sensus it was possible to enter an Engineering mode of the IHU and change the region settings..

I've found a European IHU for around 300$, but as its part # is not a direct replacement part I guess I would be screwed that route as well..?
Maybe worth a shot..

Such a tiny problem (I guess 1 bit to set somewhere) and big headache Smile

ps. of course also closely following OpenIHU.. maybe that could open some doors Wink

Cheers

The problem is not the IHU, your problem is the CEM.
You can put a IHU came from a country in far east. Once the CEM wakes up it pushes config message to all ECUs. In your case it's IHU via flexray.
Then each ECU enables or disables the options with their installed software  according to message coming from CEM.
The only important thing is that,  the requested feature exists in the ECU's software or HW even supports it.
What you can do actually, go to the VOLVO dealer, and request for market change.  Which will require an CEM reload at least partially.

Ok thanks.. I thought my local Volvo dealer said it was not possible to do a Market change to my car.. Maybe they just didn't want to spend time on it.
Could I do it myself through VIDA?

I think your dealer don't know what they are doing or just don't want to do it.
There is special software's available for radio frequencies change. It is all described in Technical Journal provided in TIE database.

Service:
To change the settings, use the following Software Products:

XC40  32267709 - RADIO FREQUENCY APPL EU
XC40  32267711 - RADIO FREQUENCY APPL US

S60/V60/V60CC  31493719- RADIO FREQUENCY APPL EU
S60/V60/V60CC  31493721- RADIO FREQUENCY APPL US

XC90/XC60  32267739 - RADIO FREQUENCY APPL US
XC90/XC60  31682889 - RADIO FREQUENCY APPL EU

S90/V90/V90CC  31493638 - RADIO FREQUENCY APPL US
S90/V90/V90CC  31682874 - RADIO FREQUENCY APPL EU

Yep, most of the service are just too lazy to check things and do just a quick search.  They just want expensive repairs or very easy money charging 2 hours for 15 min of work.
The thing is, the technician should search for TIE just like you did and than order it manually from VIDA since those SW part numbers are not standard to the car.

Thanks a lot.. Got this info earlier this week privately already.. Can't believe how lazy the dealer is..
I immediately called my contact to check on the price for the SW load and then he also confessed that my US car is the first SPA one they deal with so they don't have any previous knowledge... Agree.. a TIA search shouldn't be that hard.
Their initial answer was that the whole unit needs to be replaced for a total of 1000€++

Now the only remaining part for a full "market conversion" would be the VCM module and getting VoC back in action, but here I've learned you can't buy a used one (seems tied to the VIN more strongly.. without option for a wipe in VIDA..) so guess I have to live with it. Could always get the VDD dongle if needed later, unless Orbit has some similar plans for a cellular OBD dongle Wink

Cheers everyone

Unfortionetly you can not get EU VCM working on us market car and vice versa. Been there done that. I also have US market S90L in EU and just disabled VOC services from VCM and bought VDD.
