XC40 towbar retrofit problem
#1
Hi! I decided to install a towbar on my XC40. I bought a set:

Folding towbar (13pin socket) with fasteners and wires (original, but used. In perfect condition) 32270801

Towbar control unit 32386674 (brand new. The store indicated the number 32369968 as a replacement 32386674 . After the actual order, they sent a notification that the part number 32369968 was changing to an even newer number 32414268)  The kit includes: modul TRM, adhesive tape for fastening, fuse 40A

Three-row button 31453060 (brand new)

All wiring was already prepared at the factory. Fuses F41(25A) and F42(40A) were also installed at the factory. Voltage is present on the large connector.

Problem: After installing and checking the connection, I decided to change the configuration with Orbit. I turned on:

051 TRAILER STABILITY ASSIST (With)
110 REAR FOGLIGHT TOW FUNCTION (Foglights shut off when towing)
211 TRAILER MODULE, AFTERMARKET (Trailer Module 13-pos socket,Semi-el retractable towbar)

Programming is successful, but the towbar does not work. When you press the button, the hook does not fall out.
There is no backlight on the towbar button (the folding backrests are illuminated) and the hook indicator does not light. Can someone tell me what the problem is???

Your trailer module must not be “aftermarket”! It must be OEM for full functionality….Otherwise the button will not light or function. You need to program your OEM trailer module with VIDA, or flash the module with the correct software using Orbit. New OEM modules are a “blank slate” and need software loaded. I’ve done this with my V60 recharge PE and used VIDA (to get blessed official Volvo software). About $80 in the USA plus the software download; however, I believe Power6 can provide you with the software if you have your TRM part number. You will need this if you are outside North America since ViDA will not allow you access unless you are an official service provider outside USA/Canada. Another option would be to source a used late model TRM. That will likely already have the software loaded.

Hi

Use any available diagnostic scanner to see what errors are in the car and understand what to do next.

Hi! Diagnostics does not show errors. Next week I will go to the dealer to flash the TRM unit. It seems jdg0070 wrote correctly that the new unit is a "clean sheet". And only the dealer can program it... After visiting the dealer, I will write...

Again, either the dealer must program or you can flash the module yourself with ORBIT is you have the TRM software. POWER6 has provided that to other users including myself in the past.  You need to write him at ORBIT support.
