Hi,
simply connecting the 2018 XC40 to VIDA and performing a diagnostic readout does not normally reflash or change the ECUs. VIDA is capable of diagnostic readouts/fault tracing separately from software downloads.
The bigger issue is that VIDA can compare the vehicle's current configuration against Volvo's expected configuration. According to the OrBit community's accumulated experience, modified variant/configuration data can result in the vehicle being flagged/blocked for future Volvo software operations.
VIDA may subsequently refuse a software download/reload with an error along the lines of “This car or VIN is blocked for software download.”
The car should continue to operate normally; the problem becomes getting Volvo to perform certain software operations later.
So if you ask me and i expect support would tell you the same is to reset to OEM!
