I liked the idea of having a dedicated “car iPhone” instead of using my main phone. The car iPhone stays permanently in the center console armrest, goes into airplane mode when not charging, and is only used for CarPlay.
By default, when I get into the car, the car iPhone powers up, exits airplane mode, and CarPlay connects automatically.
If needed, I can open the armrest and gently press the spot where the USB switch button is hidden under the rubber mat. That switches CarPlay to my CarPlay dongle, which then connects to my main iPhone in my jacket.
There are also USB-C switches available with a remote button on a 2 m cable. If someone really wants to perfect the setup, mounting that button in an unused spot in the cockpit would be pretty cool — unfortunately, there’s no suitable unused button in the 2023 S60.
