It really doesn't matter whether it's centered or not. If it isn't, you can center it yourself using the calibration guide.
Let me share my experience:
the ring is basically an electronic ribbon cable wound internally, and it is very, very sensitive if you go beyond its limit.
I bought a ring that was supposedly already centered. I installed it, but it didn't work. I removed it, calibrated it, and then I could see that the internal connection was broken.
I bought a second ring; this one was not centered. I centered it, installed it, and it worked on the first try.
To check if it's centered, you need to look at the black marks on the ribbon on the left side, as shown in the ide.
