Polestar aren’t going to sell you one of these for your Volvo. It’ll be a dealer only fit. The upgrade will be a subsidised price vs what a standalone IHU will be.
Software reloads would require VIDA access. Your car might (will) be blocked if the hardware ID/part number doesn’t match. Therefore you won’t get the required software.

The person in the Polestar forum ordered it online and received it at home. It was an DIY install but he had to go to the dealer of course for the VIDA IHU reload.
It seems most of the IHUs difficulties in this forum or drive.ru evolve around getting a used IHU installed. But in this case it's a virgin IHU that hasn't been paired to a car yet. It's also seems that VIDA accepts it as upgrade (32375181 -> 32375210) at least for P2s. Not saying this upgrade easy or even doable, just different can of worms from getting a used IHU to work with your car.
But as you say only a Volvo dealer will be able to say whether it works or not or someone who actually tried it. The Volvo dealers in my area are not great and certainly won't know about this though. For example, I had to go to four dealers to get a different steering wheel fitted to my car. Asking about a IHU reload is another level.
I also see dealers asking ~400€ for a IHU reload alone, not sure why it's that expensive.
