Yes, you could disconnect the seats before visiting the dealer but then you would receive DTCs for Airbags, seat controllers and etc. The service could just plug it in and connect to the VIDA. ( you should tell them specifically not to do that. However, the person you talk to and the person who does the actual work are different) In my case, they just ignored the note on the work order.
VIDA would detect every replaced ECU. Some of them are interchangeable and VIDA just reloads the software depending on if the replaced part number is listed for your VIN. But in some cases, the replaced part is not listed for your VIN and VIDA would not reload it, " Incompatible Hardware" although it just works perfectly fine.
The only way I could find to somehow determine if VIDA would load or not is that, search for the part number of the replacement unit on google.
Check the official volvo part stores. If the part number itself (replacement) or one of its (replacement) supersession(s) fits your car, the VIDA would reload it.
Okay!
So if I rip the seat controllers from the new seats and replace them with the ones I already have, then code in seat ventilation with OrBit, it should work straight away? So the ”brains” would be transferred over and the car would just read the new seats like the old ones? Then I’d just need to revert to the factory setting in OrBit before taking my car in for service? If I’ve understood correctly, all seat types have the same controller but just with different software.
The seats I currently have are the R-Design ones which have everything that the ventilated comfort seats do except the side bolsters and massage?
