When installing the SWM/SAS you set the center of the roll connector and SAS physically. The directions are assuming you've followed procedure and done the disassembly with the steering centered. The procedure:

Once the SWM is installed all that should be needed for calibration, is to reset the steering angle compensation (if you know better, speak up!):
A used SWM probably comes with good software on it, it does not vary too much across models, it's fairly universal, so most likely, things should work.
