That's a good practice, yes. I will make a sticky about "don't see my changes" things to do to troubleshoot, there are a bunch of little things learned over time I can share.
OrBit *does* try to make things easy, when you change config, after programming we try to reset the IHU, and clear codes. I try to get the things that we already know you need to do, why not automate it. If something times out, though, OrBit just moves on, or even if all post programming is successful it still takes a little time to "see" changes on the modules sometimes.
