Haha, funny. Not always. I participate in some international Ford retrofit forums on Telegram. When I mentioned installing the 2018-2023 Ford Mustang GT's digital instrument cluster in my 2013 Ford Fusion, everyone said it was impossible (easy to say when no one has ever tried or done it). I felt challenged, and after two months, the Ford Mustang instrument cluster worked perfectly in my Ford Fusion, 100% functional. Then, when I posted, people from all over the world asked me how I did it, haha.

How the newer cars communicate is very different to the Sensus cars. There are different internal car network segregations that are now implemented on AAOS, which is  across flexray, can and lin. This probably reaches far beyond Fords changes.
You'd burn through thousands of dollars trying and likely won't succeed on this one. And you'd end up with something everyone likes to moan about...

As i tried to retrofit the roof module comparing the old schematics with the newer i realized that the VCM (Vehicle Communications Module) is removed and a VGM Vehichle Gateway Module (+more) is added, the SIM card is relocated etc etc
In my opinion this makes the project impossible at least for me.
You need extensive rewiring, adding new modules with new connectors (like the roof module for instance) and reprogramming.

for Sensus users, fullscreen CP and AA would be a godsend

yes, cracking the IHU would be awesome, but not done yet and likely will never be done on sensus.
I would've loved to also play with other functions like changing the delay to disengage cruise control when you push the accelerator, I like to follow people faster then let go and the cruise control picks up bask where it was et

If anyone would like to take a crack at it, you got some skills ideal to hack on a (customized) Windows CE based OS...reach out to me! I have extracted the HDD of a Sensus, and a good portion of the system files as well. It's just beyond me and I don't have time to try to take it further. But I can give you what I got. With OrBit I have the distribution/installation method already in place for any hack that can be achieved on the Sensus system, or I can take that part on no problem if an interesting solution arises.

Still up for that? I'd imagine with how LLM-assisted reverse engineering is breaking barriers right now, it might be worth a shot now.

Does reading and writing the Win CE system require physical access to the IHU or can Orbit access that?
