How does OrBit config affect OTA updates? Will my car get blocked?
#41
Good afternoon! Tell me, is it possible to somehow force the system to start downloading OTA updates? For some reason, the car was updated to 3.7, then 4.3.12 did not come. And now the 5.0.5 update also did not come. I have already installed OEM parameters and rebooted the system, but the updates are not coming. XC60 T8 PHEV 23MY.

4.3.12 is OTA capable for 5.0.5, what exact car, the UX Update comes in waves, if your car is not brand new you may in the running wave or in the last wave. Afaik there are 3 or 4 waves. They are weekly based and i think as long there are not to much problems the next wave is triggered. Depending on the answer about your car i just expect that you need to be a little more patient? Maybe a week or two.

Oh shit i missed that he missed 4.3.12, sorry! is Volvo not OTA updating older updates than the recent update step? If so good for the dealer, bad for the late guys, if Orbit related more bad but hopefully not :-) me personally didnt made the first config change, i recently purchased orbit, i wait for the new UX and will then go for the first shot.

About version 3.7 → 4.3.12
  • Version 3.7 itself was not universally OTA for all vehicles
  • The jump from 3.x to 4.x (including 4.3.12) is a major update, not just a minor patch
That matters because:
  • Major updates often require deeper system changes
  • Some cars need preparatory updates first
  • In many cases, Volvo requires a workshop installation

For your Volvo XC60 T8 (MY23), the situation is actually quite typical—and it matches what you suspected:
Short answer for YOUR car
The jump from 3.7 → 4.3.12 was not reliably OTA
Many XC60 MY23 needed a workshop update (dealer) at some point in that chain.

Volvo expects that you have been at the dealer in between, so they think that you should already have 4.3.12, inspection makes money.

Glad i know a friendly dealer, a crate of beer and i get the latest update on fridays while quitting time. Cheers Smile same guy that let me install whireshark on the workshop notebook... official volvo dealer in germany. Regular update costs here in germany with my dealer is about 55€

Btw. i've got a S60 MY23.

Best Regards JOS

Lost PA/camera customizations, and was stuck with a "stop safely brake failure" error after the OTA reported a successful install.

Given that I was already prepared to re-do those items, once orbit was done everything's been good since last weekend.

Could you please tell me how you resolved the “Brake failure” error?

Hi All!

Has an XC60 MY2020 Sensus where i have configured Navigation etc.

Now there was an OTA update of the maps some days ago and it is now stuck on "installing software". Yesterday i drove for 5 hours so there shall be time enough.

Navigation and everyting else is working just fine but always get this "update" circle.

Anyone have an idea of what to do?

Best regards

I had that a while ago..i recall i had to install map update with an usb stick. (maps are available from Volvo site).
Google says"To fix a Volvo Sensus navigation update stuck in an endless loop or notification cycle, force a manual override via USB or reset the system.Steps to Fix the Sensus Update LoopPrepare a fresh USB drive: Format a 32GB (or larger, depending on the map region) USB memory stick to FAT32.Download the full map: Go to the official Volvo Map Download Portal on a computer and download the complete regional map file directly to the USB stick."

cheers/H

Hi again!

Many thanks for answer.

Strange thing happened Yesterday.

After a new 1000 km trip with update stuck i was going to the store to buy a usb stick to download the maps. Stopped outside the Volvo dealer to refuel, all of a sudden i got a message that the update of maps kicked in and now everything work.

Strange coincidence

Best regards // Percy
