289 - ESCALATED EMERGENCY STOP

Question
Hi everyone! How are you doing?

Has anyone here managed to get the ESS system working on the XC40 1.5 Hybrid R-Design 2020? I tried several options using OrBit, but none of them worked. I think this technology is really cool and I’d love to activate it on my car. If anyone has gone through this or has any tips, please share! Thanks.

As far as I know, that is for VOLVO trucks.

Great question, I'm also curious. I always download the configs from our loaners and using this OrBit configuration files comparison tool I compared those backups to my 2019 XC90 which is on the left, so it seems that 2024 models apparently did have this set to 04 With EES level 3, though that might have been disabled in an AAOS update as the 2025 MY XC90 did not, but it was enabled at some point during 2024.

Your analysis is interesting. So, there are models that came with the function activated natively from the factory. I think ESS technology is very important, it's a shame I can't activate it on my XC40.

I'm not sure how to test this, but "04 With EES level 3" is the option I would choose if you do.
