Adaptation Processes
#1
Hi All, so question, is there a function or planned function for enabling adaptation processes like VIDA enables? Specifically I am asking because of transmission re-learning for example?

What is possible with SPA/CMA vehicles is under tab ECU Tools > ECU Function Requests.

I thought that was just for sending read requests to the ECU? So for example transmission oil temperature I can read, but you can't for example trigger a re-learn as that is a write activity which that doesn't do directly (unless you use the hex coding to write to ecu). Unless I'm totally misunderstanding things?

@Power6 am I wrong in assuming that you can only read with ecu requests, you can't set adaptation again? I can read the adaptation status and raw hex values...

You can write - this tool enables any DoIP action. If you've got your PIN, you just need to find the relevant action.

Yes, but you have to use the hex coding to do this, don't you? There isn't drop down options for writing? Searching through for adaptation process for example on the TCM everything is a 'read' and I'm not going to chance writing hex values to the tcm manually and mess that one up - hence the asking about similar to Vida as I'd imagine VIDA doesn't require technicians to write manual hex values (like on left hand side of ecu tools)?

Lots of theory here; do you have the name of the adaption as stated in VIDA? It might not exist. Genuinely difficult to advise or point in the correct direction if you don't know exactly what you are after. But you are correct in the fact you need to use Hex values in this tool, as that's what the car expects.
Don't forget that there are procedures here also, it's not just 'write' so you might send a Hex value to the car and the operation is built in. Again, you'll need to know what you are looking for. Start Routine is where I would be looking.

I have transmission re-learning and similar options on my Launch diag, so volvo does have that option...

Yeah, it is the gearbox adaptation learning. It's nothing really essential as even after a small overhaul it is shifting fine and will learn over time anyway. I guess I'm just not too up to speed with using Orbit I guess... I have been spoilt with VCDS for the other half's VW where it will give you helper codes for the hex values. But when it comes to writing to the ECU, then not really sure how orbit manages this or volvos expect the data. To be fair, same with backing up ecu's as need sbl files for this too (but this is another issue entirely, so don't want to confuse things here )

Just bumping this a little and still hoping maybe @Power6 can shed some light here as this is something you can do in VIDA and if you can do it in orbit then great, but it is nowhere near clear how as all the ECU commands are read only as I mentioned. Volvos procedure for fluid change is to reset the counter, any ideas?
