Default to active high beams?
#1
Hi all,

Is there a way -- via Orbit or another -- to enable active high beams by default when the headlights are in the "auto" position?

In my North American MY23 XC40 Recharge, I need to twist the spring-loaded stalk switch each time I turn the car on.

I saw a YouTube video by Bjorn Nyland, where it seemed like this was possible in a European Polestar 2 (https://youtu.be/BlUZfGMqv_g?t=160). Notice the active high beam symbol is present on the dash when he re-enters the car.

Thanks!

Ah interesting - thanks for confirming. I did a deeper dive into the available config options via OrBit and nothing stood out to me. Curious if anyone else has ideas?

Its def the 106 - Headlight Type. You have US or something and we have ROW. But I think that they covered this and its not possible to just change the config without HCM. But I might be wrong

If you change to ROW the active beams will stay on from start to start. Mine is like that now.

Thanks all. Indeed 106 was the answer! I changed it from :

11, LED, type A, Pixel Headlamp with HCM

to

12, LED, type B, Pixel Headlamp with HCM

Now AHB remains on.

Seems the headlights are still functioning properly, though both HCML & HCMR are throwing DTC "U2300". I tried a hard reset of both modules and clearing the DTCs, but they re-appear. Anyone know what they mean? I tried checking VIDA but the Bookstore site is down right now.

Thanks,
AP

U2300 - communication error. Could be because it doesn't communicates properly with HCM due to having a different configuration. But if you say they shine the same then I'll wait to see if they go away on their own

Thanks - that's helpful. Just for others who may stumble upon this thread -- in spite of the U2300 error, I just verified the full functionality of the US-spec Pixel headlamps under the Type B (106 -> 12) setting above.

Specifically,
  • Welcome / Goodbye pattern (or whatever that is called)
  • Side reflector lights (the orange ones, which I don't think are present on the EU spec, but still work)
  • Matrix functionality
  • Auto leveling
  • Beam steering

I couldn't really see a difference in the above vs. when 106 was set to Type A (11).

I'll check again if the DTC shows up tomorrow, but either way seems like it may be more informational in nature given the Type A/B hardware seems fairly similar.

Cheers,
AP

Lease or not, you won't break anything
just revert to OEM before dealer visits.
