Retrofit heated steering wheel problem. Help!

Hi there,

Last weekend I tried to do the heated steering wheel upgrade to my car (MY20 V60 T8), but it didn't go as expected.

Heated steering wheel has partnumber 32288783.
SWM has partnumber 32266030.

After programming the steering wheel with Orbit, the steering wheel is warming up (so that's working), but I got a traction control warning light in my dashboard and 2 fault codes:

BCM2-U012682
Lost Communication With Steering Angle Sensor SAS- Bus Signal / Message Failures- Alive / sequence counter incorrect / not updated 

CEM-U212E186
Invalid Data Received From PSCM Signalgroup A- Bus Signal / Message Failures- Signal invalid

Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Do I have to install some extra software, apart from activating the heated steering wheel in Orbit?

In general after replacing the SWM, it's needed to be calibrated. You wrote that, the SWM is programed a not flashed (reloaded in VIDA terms). You did not mentioned if you bought the SWM used or not. Every software reload for any ECU  includes updates for other ECUs as well.

I will also do the retrofit this week (hopefully) and my SWM is 2nd hand. Should I do a backup first and then reload the software, or?

Thank you for your answer. The SWM is used.
So what do I have to do now? Do I have to go to the dealership for the ECU updates? Or is it possible to update it yourself? 
I have the old Vida 2014D (until MY15) software, with a non-original Dice.

I thought it would be much easier than this.

Not sure if you can backup with Orbit. In any case you would need an SBL file (ECU bootloader) to flash or read (backup). 
If the used part is on the dead center and if you pull out yours in the dead center, you might get away without the calibration but it's very unlikely. 
The new part comes with a pin so it wouldn't move. After the installation, it is removed. 
Depending the on existing software you might get fault codes.

You can get a three day VIDA subscription and do it yourself. ($90) + SWM reload costs which I do not know how much it is. 
The old VIDA does not work on the SPA cars. Even it was, you would still need subscription for software reload.

I did not think of this tbh. I tought it was straight forward swap
You think Volvo would do it if I show them the fault?
And is Vida the only option to reload the SWM?

When installing the SWM/SAS you set the center of the roll connector and SAS physically. The directions are assuming you've followed procedure and done the disassembly with the steering centered. The procedure:

Once the SWM is installed all that should be needed for calibration, is to reset the steering angle compensation (if you know better, speak up!):
   

A used SWM probably comes with good software on it, it does not vary too much across models, it's fairly universal, so most likely, things should work.

As a quick update, did the swap of the steering wheel and clock spring. No software reload needed and wires were there already
Everything works as expected tho I did pull the old spring with the wheels as straight as I possibly could and the "newer" spring adjusted as per Power6 instuctions

Sadly, you cannot get VIDA in Europe for end users. This only works in the US.

The workaround is a VPN and payment through a 3rd party with a fake US address
