We have a ''23 XC40. It was delivered with only the orange key fob. I would like to add more keys.
I do not have a laptop is there any reason I could not take my desktop Mac out to the car to use OrBit?

If it runs Windows, then there is no reason why you can't use it for OrBit.

Setup bootcamp if you can, it won’t run in native macOS

To add to the question above:
On newer Mac Models running M1+ chips, bootcamp is not supported, meaning you cannot spin up a Windows OS. To make things worse, while Parallels lets you run an ARM version of Windows 11, Orbit does not seem to support it (unlike one of the alternatives).
To answer your question about programming keys -- it might be cheaper and more reasonable to go and have a dealer program the key  vs getting a new laptop, going into the trouble of obtaining the CEM PIN and fidddling with the config.
But yeah, if you like poking around the car, Orbit seems to be a good choice.. now, if it only ran on ARM Windows...
