Switching laptops

I know I’ve seen this topic covered but can’t find it now… The laptop I’ve been using to Orbit my car just suffered a tragic accident and is a total goner. My config is currently changed (adaptive high beams, easy ingress, speed limiter and curve assist are all activated) but I’ve got a dealer visit coming up in a couple weeks and want to restore to OEM before that. It’s just as simple as reinstalling orbit on another computer and restoring to OEM, right? My understanding from the explanation Power6 gave (that I can’t find) was that there is nothing about the config saved on the laptop or in Orbit, so it can be done from any machine. I just need a sanity check before I do anything.

Jep, but my experience is that the profile, that Orbit uses, is stored locally. It includes the PIN codes and such. So you do need a backup of the pincode.
Then just save the config, and restore to OEM. The OEM config is saved on the server.

I actually just found Power’s explanation I was looking for. I’m not going to try to summarize the whole thing because I’ll botch it, but it doesn’t seem like Orbit saves any of your config data because it doesn’t need to.

I’m all set up on a replacement laptop, and was able to enter my CEM pin and gain access. The first time I connected, it created a new profile that shows my previous changes as the original config for my car. Does anyone know if I need to update my profile before I restore to OEM, or does it not matter?

Don't believe it matters. The restore to OEM just tells the car to forget the "changes" OrBit has set.

Again from what I understand these changes are not to actual boolean or integer values but instead a modification of the program flow the car uses to read the "stock" values. So because Orbit manipulates the actual process, any changes made can just be "wiped" by essentially telling the car to revert to the default method for retrieving stock values and forget the OrBit method.

I'm unsure how the modification is implemented, it could be that OrBit changes are tagged in some way so when you click restore to OEM OrBit is essentially saying find all process's containing "OrBit" tag and delete. Or if there is some sort of seperation between OrBit and stock code and the extra stuff can just be "detached". This we may never know though as Power6, understandably, may want to keep his special sauce to himself.

Confirmed- it does not matter. Orbit is amazing!

It was as simple as installing Orbit on the new machine, entering my pin, letting it create a profile, then restoring to OEM. I updated my profile after that so it’s got my true OEM build stored. Easy-peasy!
