Consequences of visiting the dealer without Restore OEM — software-only config change

Apologies if this has been asked before — I searched but couldn't find a clear, definitive answer.
My situation: I'm only interested in software config changes (Start/Stop memory, Pilot Assist, that kind of thing). No hardware retrofits, no module firmware uploads — purely toggling config settings that the car already supports. Sensus ,2020 model.

Question 1: Suppose for whatever reason I don't get around to doing Restore OEM before the car goes to an authorised Volvo dealer — I forget, or the car goes in unexpectedly. What actually happens?
Do I get locked out on Volvo's side, or do my settings just get overwritten during their software update and that's the end of it?
Question 2: If a lock-out is a real thing — what does it actually mean in practice?

• What exactly stops working? Only future dealer/VIDA operations, or OTA updates and connected services too?
  
• Is it reversible? What's the procedure?
  
• Does it cost anything, and roughly how much?
  
• Is it flagged against the VIN permanently, or does it clear once the config matches again?
  

I'm in Poland, so if dealer handling differs by market, experience from PL or nearby EU countries would be especially useful.

If only the software has been changed without any HW parts then you are more on the safe side of things. My experience is with Germany, Austria and Bulgaria dealers. And intentionally i had left the changes done with orbit and vdash before going for maintenance such as engine oil, filters and etc. And the car was been throught Vida Total update during this visits without any problems what so ever. Yet that story will change upon new hardware which is not supposed to be there from factory perspective. Like new audio amp, seats and etc. If you car is banned then there is a service route to restore back to original and be inspected by volvo shop to verify it and pay You will not be able to upgrade the car via dealer visits.

You're good with Software changes using OrBit currently.

If you were to become blocked, you revert back to OEM > they validate it via TIE/PIE server validation and it simply adds a few more days in the workshop whilst some poor person has to deal with a 'HQ' ticket

Helps to know what car you are referring to. A Sensus vehicle is probably not going to get updated by a dealer so this is a non issue.
