ABS Module - Hydro87 - 07-07-2025 Hey everyone, I have a 2017 XC90 that suddenly stopped turning on—no crank or anything. When I scan the car, the ABS module (VDDM), ECM, and TCM are all missing from the network. After some digging, I found out that the VDDM acts as a CAN master, and the signal goes to that module first before reaching the ECM and TCM. My question is: does anyone know if it’s possible to replace this module (VDDM/ABS module) with a used unit and perform a VIDA reload on it? A new one costs around $700, while a low-mileage used one is about $160. Thanks in advance! There is no such thing CAN master in the CAN network. All CAN modules (ECUs) sends messages through the can network. (1 pair of twisted wire) The network is terminated with 120 ohm resistor at the each end (In ECM and VCM) So that the total resistance of a healthy CAN measures 60 ohms. Before even jumping to conclusions and trying to replace modules, first check the physical wires and connections. A faulty ABS / VEHICLE DYNAMICS DOMAIN MASTER should not not cause all other modules become unresponsive to diagnostic commands unless it has internal short. If you have sunroof, probabily you will find that box floded. If is floded, remove it from conector, clean the conector and the car will start without it. You can open it and see of is coroded. If is not coroded, you can wash it an put it back. After you remove the seat, remove the carpet and the black foam under the carpet. OBD firewall is part of propulsion CAN at your car RE: ABS Module - Hydro87 - 07-13-2025 For anyone who may experience this issue, it turned out to be the VDDM module—also known as the ABS module—that was causing the no-start condition. A common symptom is the dash displaying the speed as “–”. In my case, the faulty VDDM was also preventing communication with both the ECM and TCM. Once I replaced the module with a new one from the dealer, the speed readout correctly displayed “0 mph.” After reprogramming the module in VIDA, the car started right up. Not sure how it failed as there was no sign of water damage or anything RE: ABS Module - IMAY2023 - 07-14-2025 It's unlikely that module would break out of the blue if there was no accident that caused a physical damage. You might have a short somewhere, check that because same thing can happen to the new module. Ill keep an eye out but i feel like if there were a short i'd get a code for something related to that module, as of yet nothing. It's rare but i think modules give out from time to time. I also think it might of been due to this but it doesnt mention losing connectivity to the ECM and TCM like i did |
