S60 HK amp in XC90 Base HP? - MaxC - 02-24-2025 So the background to this is, I have a 2019 S60 that I upgraded the HK stereo to B&W with Orbit. So now I have a full S60 HK system and amp sitting around unused. My 2020 XC90 has the base HP stereo, and while I did add a B&W sub & external amp to it, the itch to upgrade is building... ![]() In looking at the S60 HK wiring diagram, it seems to be pretty similar to the XC90 base HP system, with as far as I can tell the only major differences being the addition of the center speaker, and the S60 has tweeters in the rear row (2nd row of XC90). The front doors are wired the same, and the rear doors are close. The sub is a non-issue as I have one already with an external amp driving it. S60: Front - woofer, mid + tweeter wired together in parallel Rear - woofer + tweeter wired in series, midrange XC90: Front - woofer, mid + tweeter wired together in parallel (same as S60) Rear - woofer + midrange wired in series (no tweeter) My thought is if I adjust the rear door wiring to connect the woofer and tweeter together, and then run new wires to the midrange, I should be mimicking the system in the S60 accurately. I'll need to find a 22 pin harness to work with, which I think this one will work, and I'd like to find a 16 pin harness extension as well so I don't have to cut any factory wiring. I know I'll be missing the roof speakers in the 3rd row, but I really don't want to drop and cut into the headliner just to add extra speakers back there, and if I did feel crazy I could put the midrange back there from the rear speakers. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Is the software really optimized for each cabin format (i.e. S60 vs XC90)? Is there anything I'm not considering? Thanks! I should add, I'd like to keep the S60 HK AUD stock as I may need to swap it back into the S60 whenever I go into the dealer for service ![]() RE: S60 HK amp in XC90 Base HP? - IMAY2023 - 02-28-2025 Yes, it should work. I did the opposite. I fitted s90 B&W AUD to S60. The woofer and the tweeter in the rear doors of s60 are in parallel. I wired the second rear door channel to each door feeding the tweeters. Then I added s90 MID speakers in parallel to the tweeters. Sounds great. There is one big difference between B&W and HK AUDs, The HK AUD is interchangeable between 60 and 90 models with simple software config change. Meaning it's possible to swap channels. But the B&W AUD is not interchangeable. Meaning it's not possible to turn an s90 B&W outputs into S60. (merging woofer and high into 1 channel for rear doors). I would ditch the external sub amp and use the HK instead and add the roof speakers too since you have them. at least pull the wires. There are nice speaker boxes which you can hang at the rear pillars with 2 sided tape if you do not want to cut the roof. |
