Heated steering wheel - Hot Toddy - 11-18-2023 Does anyone know if Volvo’s are generally fitted as standard with heater elements in the steering wheel? Or would this be a specific addition for higher spec models or those including a “winter package” for example. I have a 2019 XC60 Momentum (limited spec) for which I have activated the heated steering wheel option through Orbit. That has enabled an additional control in the central panel, piggy-backed on the driver’s heated seat control, that allows me to select the heated steering wheel from level 1 to 3. Unfortunately, I get no temperature change at the steering wheel. So should I conclude that my car simply doesn’t heating element in the steering wheel? Or are there other factors that affect when it would heat up? Like outside/inside ambient temperature? Or whether heated seats and/or front/rear screen heaters are switch on? Bottom line: should I be able to get this working with my model? Or would I need a replacement steering wheel that actually heats? Would Orbit be able detect if the necessary support is there? Thanks RE: Heated steering wheel - A-P - 11-18-2023 I believe you'll need to swap steering wheels E.g.,: https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/InstallationInstruction/Document/VCC-476607-5/XC60(18-)/2019/T8%20(Twin%20Engine)/Automatic/default/XC60%20(18-)%202019 See this thread as well: https://forums.spaycetech.com/showthread.php?tid=219 Heated steering wheel - Partridge - 11-18-2023 As far as I know, Volvo doesn’t do a lot of the “build all the cars the same and enable it in software” thing. (Cough. BMW… Cough). If you don’t have a heated steering wheel you might not even have the wiring for it. There are some that do have the wiring, like early R-designs with the cold weather package that didn’t come with a heated steering wheel because Volvo just didn’t make a heated R-design wheel at the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Heated steering wheel - Sodertalje - 11-20-2023 Can confirm. You need another steering wheel and another SWM, Steering Wheel Module. Before all this, check if there's a fuse in position 13 in the fusebox under the dashboard. If there is one, there is a big chance all wiring is there. RE: Heated steering wheel - volvoxc1245 - 02-01-2024 Hello! I am just about ready to complete this install. I have a 2017 xc60 T6 Dynamic AWD P3. I am doing some final checks and have a few questions if anyone knows the answers: Clock spring: 31343662 Module: 31343460 Wheel: 31404234 After reading every forum I could find on the the topic, there are various encounters installers could have to complete the retrofit. I am not concerned about the software reloads - more or less the install of the hardware 1. Plug and play because the wiring is there...see picture examples: You will see the wires are yellow and yellow/blue...they seem to be possibly a 12+ and ground since it runs the red and brown wires to the clock spring This picture indicates that the heated clock spring is there and being used with the heated steering wheel https://bparts-eu.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/images/135079/original/images/135079/clean_image/0u0aizbhjqegrdcr9dfk2gajrvvm5quy.jpg This picture indicates the wiring is there for the heated clock spring but the clock spring is not heated https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/JTwAAOSwNSBk9PhX/s-l1600.jpg 2. The wiring is not there and will need to be added but you have fuse 13 and the wiring for the harness in pins 1 and 7: this is per someone from swedespeed who had the retrofit done by dealer and explains volvo rewired it from the radio https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/retrofitted-heated-steering-wheel-wont-work-now-what.638298/page-2?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest These are from posts #84 and #94 by the user 31355 who had the retrofit done at the dealer " Fuse 13 does NOT indicate it is pre-wired for the heated wheel. My car had fuse 13 from the factory, but did not have the wiring. Checking if the fuse is present does NOT offer any insight into if your car is able to be ungraded via plug-in-play. " Since I went through this myself and had Volvo eventually "retrofit" the car with wiring harnesses, I know the answer. The SWM without heated wheel does not have the "circuit board" inside that controls/regulates the temperature. The connector where the wiring plugs into the SWM literally is missing pins for the connector where the heated steering wheel wiring goes. You can plug it into the SWM, but the pins don't contact anything at the SWM receptacle. In my case Volvo hard-ran a single wire for the power and added it into the pin location in the harness. I had upgraded to the heated wheel SWM so it also had the correct pin present. The SWM and the wiring all has to be application-specific to work." 3. No fuse 13 and starting from scratch. So I am curious as to what to do if I am in the second category. There new SWM will need to be plugged in and it looks to be that the plug is there from the installation page: https://accessories.volvocars.com/AccessoriesWeb/Accessories.mvc/Images/0000c8af/80/0c/15/e6.jpg My question...does anyone know if the yellow/blue and yellow wires from the first pictures are just a - and +, respectively? These look to connect to the black and red, respectively on the clockspring. If so, can i just run a 12+ and then ground the other wire? This is all before i go ahead and purchase the orbit software to reprogram. Any insight would be great and thanks in advance! 31404324 RE: Heated steering wheel - volvoxc1245 - 02-01-2024 Actually by the second picture the wires look to be yellow/blue and yellow/grey which would coincide with this picture that use nicoawd from swedespeed posted here: https://imgur.com/rAaNrsj RE: Heated steering wheel - Sodertalje - 02-03-2024 Speaking from my own experiences: I did 3 heated steering wheel upgrades, including my own car. All 3 were V60. All 3 had Fuse 13 already in and all 3 were plug and play after exchanging the SWM and steering wheel and loading software. The only thing they had in common was that all 3 were Inscription models. RE: Heated steering wheel - volvoxc1245 - 02-03-2024 Thanks for your note! I have done a little more research and realized that fuse 13 is for the s60 and spa models. I have the 2017 xc60 p3 and the fuse is number 9 (15A) located in the CEM. I am going back today and seeing if the CEM has fuse 9 and if not I will run the wire for the hswm +. Just a note that I did confirm my question that the black and red wire on the clockspring are - and +, repsectively. I am posting this wiring diagram for the whole xc60 2014 and 2015 model and note that the hswm is the same for the 2016 and 2017 models. I will report back with more info once I have checked for the fuse and the running of the wire (if needed). Here is the s60 wiring diagram of the hswm for reference: https://www.swedespeed.com/attachments/wiring-png.144769/ Here is the wiring diagram for the whole 2014/2015 xc60 car (2016 and 2017 also are probably very similar if not the same): https://theeshadow.com/files/volvo/vwd/p3/TP39273202%20XC60%202014%202015%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf I am learning how to read a car wiring diagram much more thoroughly now which has aided in the process. Cheers! RE: Heated steering wheel - volvoxc1245 - 02-04-2024 Ok so I have figured out the location and wiring for those who do not have the wiring/connector at the clockspring for the heated steering wheel. The dashboard harness may or may not have the HSWM connector needed to complete the install - you could have to buy one or solder onto the board the wires missing. I haven't checked for mine yet but here is a picture of what the harness looks like so yo you can have a full picture. The HSWM connector is embedded under the drivers floor mat and is a white 6-prong female that is located right before the the harness breaks off to the steering wheel column and other dash components https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ySkAAOSwJGpjEjSl/s-l1600.webp Here is another: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Xq8AAOSwhQtg9CC3/s-l1600.webp This one is nice and easy to see since there is foam around the connector next to the two ground lines Here is a close up inside a car that has one: https://a.d-cd.net/45917d6s-1920.jpg RE: Heated steering wheel - volvoxc1245 - 02-05-2024 pulled off connector 1 of the CEM and pin 65 (HSWM +) is indeed in the slot with a yellow/red wire that continues with the harness. I did not find the end of the plug and so I am not sure of where it ends, but this is looking like it will be seamless if the plug is found |
