ACC steering smoothness - JoePolestar2 - 09-05-2026

Hi all - my first post. I was chatting with an AI (yes, yes, I know...) and the topic of steering smoothness when running Pilot Assist came up. I mentioned that I feel frequent, easily perceptible, slightly choppy steering corrections while holding the wheel and Mr AI said ACC steering should be "glassy smooth", which it has never been, in my experience. Car came with full Pilot Assist active; it's not a mod. AI suggested recalibrating a couple of modules, as described below. I'd like to know if my experience is normal or others in fact do have 'glassy smooth' steeringĀ and whether the suggested actions are safe and likely to be effective.

  1. Go to the ECU Tools or Diagnostics tab.
  2. Look for the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) and the FSM/ASD (Forward Sensing/Active Safety Domain Module) in the ECU list.
  3. Execute a manual Module Reset / ECU Reload on both. (This forces the steering rack and the front radar/cameras to dump their learned visual profiles and completely restart their tracking algorithms from scratch).

"Glassy smooth" sounds a bit like Volvo's marketing material. Maybe that is AI's reference. I wouldn't call it "glassy smooth" either. Unfortunately I don't have any answer but this is an interesting question. Tell us what you'll find out.
