VDDM height sensors - damachone - 05-11-2026

Hi everyone

I recently replaced the lower link on the rear right suspension height sensor on my 2017 S90.
I don't have air suspension, so this is only used for headlamp levelling.

I still get a DTC saying the value is out of range, and when I monitor the VDDM DIDs for front and rear height, the readings are very different and move in opposite directions when the vehicle height changes.

I was really hoping someone could check this on an S90 and tell me what "normal" looks like!

When I replaced the lower link, the "elbow" could go in two orientations, either towards the centre or outside of the vehicle and I am wondering if I picked the wrong one...

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Should be towards the outside of the vehicle. Btw, are you using Orbit to monitor the VDDM DIDs? I am not sure if Orbit can do SUM monitoring.

Thanks - looks like I had it fitted correctly.

The DIDs look like the attached screenshot - they seem to move in opposite directions and are quite offset - I was wondering if that was normal?
The graph shows the sensor readings when I got out of the vehicle and then repeatedly pushed on the sill kick plate.  The car was parked pretty much level.

Re-attached the screenshot as you can't see inline images on mobile browsers.

RE: VDDM height sensors - damachone - 06-12-2026

If anyone would be kind enough to log the same graph for a vehicle on level ground it would be super helpful.

I think one of the sensors is reading too high or low, which is causing the headlights to be aimed low.  Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a calibration function for the height sensors, so I'll probably have to replace the sensor that's not reading correctly, but at the moment I can't tell which one it is!  (though I strongly suspect it's the rear one...)
