Official dealerships and removing the Speed Limit - CascadeVortex47 - 01-23-2026

Hi all,
I am wondering what are the common practices of official Volvo dealerships when taking the car in for service?
I've read a lot of contradicting info online, with some stating it's no problem whatsoever, that a technician really has to dig into the configuration of the car to find the governor speed has been changed, while others stating that it's an instant void of all warranties and denial of any service. Both sides sound a bit apsurd honestly, so I am looking for anyone with concrete experiences with this and a definitive answer.

Secondly, if you really need to reset the configuration to OEM every time before a service, it's not really "You could drive a new Volvo for $50,000. For $100, you can own it.", because if you plan to keep your Volvo for more than a year, you need to pay the $100 PER YEAR*. I have not yet purchased OrBit, so is there some way to switch between OEM and your desired configuration even after the subscription ends?

Yes, it's necessary to revert to factory settings before taking your car in for any service at the dealership. However, you can back up all the changes before and after the service and restore them. When your Orbit subscription expires, you can simply restore it to factory settings.

You’re right, and the situation is actually even more complex.
For me, the new Volvo OTA 4.2.13 update was successful; however, I did not revert the Orbit changes beforehand. This resulted in the car being blocked with an “ABS/brake error.” Luckily, I applied the OTA at home and had an active Orbit license, so I was able to write the settings again and recover the car.
However, if I had applied the update at work or while on holiday, the car would have been unusable.
It’s also worth mentioning that you retain access to all the changes you’ve made only while you are an active Orbit subscriber. Without an active subscription, functionality is quite limited.

Thinking about it now, it could be a very useful Orbit feature to allow restoring OEM settings even without an active license. This could help prevent or resolve potential critical situations like this one.

But after the subscription ends, can you still apply the backup with changes, not just restore?

Was that update on a Sensus or Android OS? Also, now I'm getting conflicting info. You are saying after the end of subscription, restoring to OEM is limited, and the other user is saying you can restore to OEM, I presume completely.

You can only restore to OEM once your subscription expires...
But it would be nice option to be able to restore backup (for example, I have finished long time ago changing options, so I need only OEM and Backup file) without paying full price... Maybe there could be an option, for 20-30$ a year that will only let us select OEM or backup file when needed...

Yes, absolutely. I am thinking the same thing
