Rear Heated Seats? - spacemanspiff - 10-03-2025

Has anyone retrofitted rear heated seats? Seems like it would be simple given the ease of access and because the wiring is already in place.

My kids would certainly appreciate it during the early morning winter rides to school in Vermont.

If you search here on the forum, you will find some posts about heated/ventilated/massage front/rear seat retrofits.

Yes, I retrofitted s90 rear heated and ventilated seats to my s60 2019.
You did not give any info about your car model, trim, year and if you already have front heated seats or not.

Don't buy the heating elements and control units and try to fit them inside the seats. Just go and find used seats matching your interior. The cost of those elements individually and the time to install them does not worth it.

Basically, you will need to build a harness between the backrest and the seat and from the heating module to the CCM and FuseBOX.
You will need these. 2 for each.

Power, take it from the rear fuse box by using fuse tabs. Each seat has its own fuse number.
Ground, you can take it from the body below the seat. (lift the carpet, you will see it on each side).
LIN is shared with the front seat of each side.
Wire I used 18 but 20 is also ok. For LIN wire, you can even use 22 since there is no load on it.

If you already have rear center console vents, you just need to replace digital switch with the one that has heated rear seat function it's not expansive. Don't worry, all models are using the same exact panel.  Or, you can use your central screen rear climate controls for the rear seat heating.

If you do not have rear vents, you will need to add the rear seat heat control buttons on the central console.
There is connector if you lift the plastic cover but you will need to provide power and LIN.  You can get the power from the 12v lighter. LIN, you will need to jump the wire on central console harness connector.  (it's shared with the start and stop switch and control switch under the screen)

Thanks for the response.

I've got a 2018 V90CC. It already has front heated seats and the rear center console vents with control screen.

Having lifted up the back seat to do some speaker wire runs previously, it looked like it would be easy enough to install the rear heating elements as the harness is already there. But if I'm reading your post right, I will need to add more wire?

Ah looking at this Ebay listing I see what you mean about it being easier to just buy a seat rest with the heating elements already in it. I did not realize that the elements went within the visible foam.

Originally, there are no speaker wires under the rear seat. The wires you see on your car are for the seat belts and some other stuff.
Yes, you need to do the wiring between the seat and the backrest then to the power and heated seat LIN connector of the front seats. LR to LF and RR to RF. You can do that right at the front seats connector.
