RE: De-japanify my Volvo - tower - 10-12-2025 I have also attempted to perform this. My findings: If you remove/delete the Japanese maps, the ETC warning will disappear. However, you may also lose the speed limit recognition. I have also tried updating the maps & it seems to only recognize a USB with Japan map data. Hello there, I’ve just got my 2020 Japanese Volvo S60 T5 Inscription Plus here in the UK. I’ve changed the usual settings on Orbit and did notice the dash (DIM) had changed to the UK settings. I deleted the navigation with the Japanese maps thus losing all navigation data. I went through deleting the maps which resulting in me losing the speed limit displayed in the HUD too. I did attempt to load in the EU maps (both North West Europe and the whole of Europe separately to no avail. I reloaded the new Japanese maps back again (as of 27th Jan 2026) which just put the Japanese maps back on and put me outside Tokyo station again. All the other settings are the same. I believe the issue is with the IHU and that could need replacing with a domestic unit to your country as the Japanese one could be different or another theory that I believe will remedy the issue is replacing the VICS unit (vehicle information and communication system) aka the antenna with a non Japanese one. Unfortunately both of these require some technical knowledge and most likely recoding to the vehicle. You can pick up new VICS units online I see. One issue I’m having is that there were 4 profiles saved to my car that I can’t appear to delete. I’ve got a XC40 at home too and when I look at the profiles on that one it offers me the option to delete those profiles. Another issue is that I have changed all the language settings to English UK on orbit and Vdash however when I go back on settings it only ever provides English US. It’s not big thing however it seems these Japanese models hardware is different. The speed limit still reads road signs in km/h rather than miles (shows the red line speed limit in the speedometer well under what it is in mph. I’m hoping someone in orbit can crack this and perhaps make a map download or a software update that could configure it. I’m assuming Volvo hasn’t gone through the hardship of providing slightly different software for one market alone like Japan and it can be worked out. I’m considering changing both units and I’ll report back when I do this. (Maybe a couple of months until I get around to it). Likewise if anyone has any success please let me know. Need someone out there to provide an update for European/RoW maps utilising the Japanese system. I’m betting we need to replace the IHU and the VICS system to bring it into what a domestic car would be. I have had a look on Volvo and apparently Japan utlises the VICS system for its navigation and the rest of the world uses INRIX. No idea what that means however surely it could be changed to use INRIX and just requires a software change/update? Japanese Volvos use VICS (Vehicle Information Communication System) to receive data about navigation. (Korea uses a different system too) NZ/Aus/USA/EU and so on (except Brazil) use the INRIX system for RTI (Real traffic information/navigation). (This will also allow digital radio I believe too) Now I don’t know if this requires a software change, hardware change (antenna for the vehicle in SPA/CMA models) or both! I’ve no idea how to go about this yet but I’ll do my best to attempt to figure it out. I hope someone can attempt this as-well (orbit please! ?) A change of market settings doesn’t seem enough to change from VICS to INRIX. One thing I haven’t done is unplug the VICS system (I believe it’s on the front windscreen) to see if it would self revert to a local setting however I’d imagine the INRIX system is already programmed in if it’s a world wide system and just VICS is added for Japan. I’ve tried researching everywhere but to no avail. Sorry if this thread is dead but I’ll continue to post when I have more information.
