ECM could be a running change too. I think it was about the time that Rob discovered he couldn't tune the latest ECMs when I had bought a tune from him. He had me check the ECM part number sticker. Andof course my 2019 S60 had the updated ECM so couldn't be tuned. But I haven't heard many people tuning the SPA even with the earlier ECM.
For ECMs the part numbers he can tune I think mirrors what D5T5 supports: https://d5t5.com/article/how-unlock-and-tune-vea-with-vdash-ucbp (under "supported HW numbers")

I deeply suspect the new Freescale units use exactly the same maps, once you get past the security setups.
The fact that the D5 diesels, both pre and post ECU evolution produce exactly the same performance suggests a replatforming of the existing ECU, rather than new maps.
Oh, and +1 for the Crack Bounty from me too. I'd be in for $200 if it can be done!

To give you an idea, it's probably possible, I think the Mazda version of this ECM has been "cracked". Likely the only thing stopping the Volvo version from being cracked too, is the expected demand for it, so the vendors that do this routinely, like Alientech for example, they would just need to turn their attention to it, but because Volvo...they haven't. That's my guess anyways.
I can tell you, this is a hardware task. The software update process is protected by signed software and signature check. So the task is taking the hardware ECM, figure out how to read it to get he original program off of it, and figure out how to compromise the signature checking inside the ECM, so it could then be loaded with unsigned calibration.
It requires a very certain set of skills...

D5T5 says tunes are possible for the 2019+ cars but to contact them. Perhaps they have a lead on ECU tuning.
For the 2016-2018 cars they offer tunes. Do the 2018 cars requires signed firmware? Do you have a way to decode the ECU pin on the 2018 cars?
